Hydro is joining Alumobility, a non-profit association of leading aluminum producers and downstream technology partners committed to advancing the adoption of aluminum within modern vehicles. This reinforces Hydro’s commitment to advancing industry knowledge and supporting automotive OEMs in producing lighter and more sustainable vehicles.
“Aluminum is critical in enabling lighter, more energy efficient and circular vehicles,” said Paul Warton, executive vice president of Hydro Extrusions. “Leveraging our leadership in low-carbon production and advanced material solutions, we are proud to contribute to innovation that will shape the future of the automotive industry, while at the same time supporting global OEMs in meeting ambitious sustainability and performance targets.”
Alumobility provides the industry with in-depth technical case studies and expert insights that illustrate the potential of aluminum to enable lighter, safer, and more sustainable vehicles. This includes a variety of projects, such as a study that involved converting a mass-produced C-segment SUV passenger door from steel to aluminum, which showed a 45% weight reduction.
Hydro’s expertise for automotive applications spans the full aluminum value chain, from primary production and alloy development to extrusions, components, and recycling. By joining Alumobility, the company will be able to contribute its deep technical capabilities and extensive experience across the aluminum lifecycle, while benefiting from collaboration with other industry leaders.
Together, Hydro and Alumobility aim to advance shared goals of educating automakers to further accelerate innovation in lightweight, low-carbon, and circular aluminum solutions. This is expected to enable lighter vehicle architectures and drive sustainability in the automotive sector.
“We are delighted to welcome Hydro to Alumobility,” said Martin Norden, president of Alumobility. “Their deep expertise across the aluminum value chain and leadership in low-carbon, circular approaches bring tremendous value to our association. With Hydro’s participation, we can further enrich this knowledge base and continue to demonstrate aluminum’s critical role in shaping the future of mobility.”
