Hammerer Aluminum Industries (HAI) completed the installation of a new €4.5 million melting furnace at its facility in Santana, Romania. The new furnace expands its recycling and remelting capacity to 250,000 tons per year.

The investment in a new furnace is in reaction to the high demand for aluminum lightweight products made from recycled material. “We were able to implement the project quickly and put the melting furnace into operation at the beginning of the year as planned,” said Rob van Gils, CEO of HAI. “This means that we can now supply the market with high-quality recycling material at full capacity.”

The new ECOMELT-PR120 multi-chamber furnace, supplied by Hertwich Engineering, is designed to process various grades of scrap, with a capacity of up to 130 tons per day. The furnace features an essential combination of low energy consumption and maximum metal yield; an operating principle that fits perfectly into the sustainability strategy of Hammerer Aluminum Industries.

The sustainability strategy is a key area of focus for HAI. The company is pushing sustainable circular economy in the aluminum sector through its commitment, innovation, and high investment in new technologies.

“Customers and investors are demanding a real transformation towards sustainable management, in ecological and social terms,” explained van Gils. “The topics of CO2 emissions and the circular economy will continue to gain in importance. With a recycling rate of up to 80%, our company is a pioneer in the aluminum industry. We are highly motivated to further advance these processes.”

Founded in 2007, HAI is headquarted in Ranshofen, Austria, with seven additional locations in Germany, Romania, and Poland. The company supplies extruded aluminum products to construction, automotive, transport and electrical engineering sectors and employs about 2,000 people.
