© by G&P

Ellwood Aluminum ordered a new 200,000 lb batch homogenizing furnace for Phase 2 of their aluminum casthouse expansion in Hubbard, OH. When it started operation in early 2020, the new casthouse represented the company’s first entry into the aluminum melting and casting market. The facility is able to produce billet and slab, enabling the company to diversify their capabilities in order to better serve the automotive, aerospace, and commercial transportation markets.

The new homogenizing furnace will be supplied by Gillespie & Powers Inc. (G&P), based in St. Louis, Missouri. Ellwood selected G&P for the supply of the new furnace due to their successful furnace supply during Phase 1 of the aluminum casthouse. During the construction of Phase 1, G&P supplied a a 55 ton tilting melting furnace and a 50 ton tilting holding furnace, as well as a two-chamber sow drying oven.

The new furnace will be the second homogenizing furnace that Ellwood has ordered from G&P. Both of the new furnaces will be installed in the Phase 2 expansion. The supplier stated that they are “excited to be partnering with Ellwood Aluminum in the continued development of their business.”

The new homogenizing furnaces are expected to start operation by July 2022.
