  • Hydro Extruded Solutions Hoogezand B.V. in the Netherlands has become the first aluminium extrusion company to be certified against ASI’s Performance Standard for environmental, social and governance performance.  which produces aluminium profiles as well as anodised and painted components, Aluminium extrusions are used in a wide range of sectors, including electronics, automotive, mass transit, bridge decking, telecommunications, renewable energy industries and more. With the ambition to offer fully certified Hydro aluminium to the market in 2019, Hydro Hoogezand is now the world’s first extrusion plant to obtain the Performance Standard certification by the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). ASI is the highest internationally recognized standard for robust environmental, social and governance practices across the aluminium lifecycle of production, use and recycling. Hydro is currently in the process of certifying a total of 15 plants, with the ambition to offer fully ASI certified aluminium in 2019.  “We always strive to be frontrunners in our industry," said Svein Richard Brandtzæg,  As our customers need to reach their own sustainability targets and meet the demand from more climate-conscious end-consumers, we believe the market will increasingly demand the most responsible aluminium,” says Hydro’s President and CEO, . “Seen in combination with our carbon footprint being amongst the lowest of any aluminium company in the world, the ASI certification process further strengthens our dedication to sustainability and responsibility, all the way from bauxite extraction to production of advanced aluminium products and solutions,” says Brandtzæg. In 2017, Hydro launched two of the most sustainable aluminium alloys currently available on the market, the certified low-carbon products 4.0 and 75R. Hydro 4.0 guarantees a maximum carbon footprint of 4.0 CO2 per kg aluminium during its entire life cycle, while Hydro 75R contains a traceable percentage of minimum 75% post-consumer recycled content. Hydro also recently announced an investment to increase production of Hydro 75R at its plant in Azuqueca, Spain, as well as expanding remelt operations at its Slovalco aluminium plant in Slovakia for it to serve as a remelter for conversion scrap from extrusion plants in Central Europe. Hydro Extruded Solutions Hoogezand B.V. (Netherlands), which produces aluminium profiles as well as anodised and painted components, has become the first aluminium extrusion company to be certified against ASI’s Performance Standard for environmental, social and governance performance.  Aluminium extrusions are used in a wide range of sectors, including electronics, automotive, mass transit, bridge decking, telecommunications, renewable energy industries and more.  Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) today announced the first aluminium extrusion plant to be successfully certified against its standards for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium, and the issuing of the 10th ASI Certificate. Located in the Netherlands, Hydro Extruded Solutions Hoogezand B.V. has 155 employees and its products/operations include extruded profiles, powder coating, anodised profiles, isolation and wrap line for special packaging, mechanical treatment and manufacturing of dies. The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain.  The independent, third-party audit of Hydro Extruded Solutions Hoogezand B.V. was carried out by GUTcert (AFNOR Group).   Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said “ASI is delighted to congratulate Hydro Extruded Solutions on their successful ASI Certification of the Hoogezand operations.  Aluminium extrusions are one of the metal’s most versatile applications, finding use in an incredible variety of bespoke applications in both consumer and industrial markets.  This first ASI Certification for an extrusion company is thus an important milestone, and builds on the Hoogezand team’s strong customer relationships and commitment to responsible production.”  “We always strive to be frontrunners in our industry. As our customers need to reach their own sustainability targets and meet the demand from more climate-conscious end-consumers, we believe the market will increasingly demand the most responsible aluminium. Seen in combination with our carbon footprint being amongst the lowest of any aluminium company in the world, the ASI certification process further strengthens our dedication to sustainability and responsibility, all the way from bauxite extraction to production of advanced aluminium products and solutions,” said Hydro’s President and CEO, Svein Richard Brandtzæg.  https://aluminium-stewardship.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/ASI-Summary-Audit-Report-Hydro-Hoogezand-Netherlands-10.pdf
