Hydro completed the acquisition of Hueck, a globally active manufacturer of extruded aluminum profile systems for windows, doors, and façade applications, for €60.3 million (~US$64.3 million). This follows approval from competition authorities in Germany and Austria.
Founded in 1814, Hueck is headquarted in Lüdenscheid based, Germany. The company has decades of experienced developing profile systems, which are optimized to meet the demands of practical applications, with cross-series component sharing — including modular façade systems and other architectural designs. Hueck operates a factory just outside Lüdenscheid, which includes two presses (12 inch and 8 inch) and a casthouse with an annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes, as well as offices within the city. The company had €172 million (~US$183.5 million) in revenue in 2021.
The acquisition strengthens Hydro’s presence in Germany, as well as other European markets. Hueck’s building systems business complements and adds to Hydro’s building systems portfolio, which includes the WICONA brand. This creates a solid platform for further growth in extrusions and building systems.
“Hueck is in many ways a perfect fit for Hydro Extrusions,” said Paul Warton, executive vice president of Hydro Extrusions. “With our new colleagues on board, we instantly grow our market share in the important German markets for both Building Systems and Extrusions. We look forward to meeting the people and together we will write new chapters in the history of both companies.”
Germany is the largest segment of the European market for building systems and aluminum extrusions. With the acquisition, Hydro will have a total of five extrusion facilities, three recycling facilities, and a total of 2,000 employees in the country. This includes 200 technicians who are specialists in creating solutions for windows, doors, and façades for the building and construction industry.
