Matalco Inc., a division of the Giampaolo Group of Companies, is currently investing $53.5 million in the construction of a new remelt facility in Franklin, Kentucky, as part of its larger investment project to expand production across the U.S.
Operating under the name Matalco Kentucky LLC, the plant will be housed within a 461,000 sq ft facility, where it will produce 270 million lbs of aluminum alloy billet and slab per year from recycled aluminum for customers throughout the Midwest.
The company entered into an agreement with Gillespie & Powers Inc., located in St. Louis, MO, for the supply of melting and holding furnaces for the new Franklin site. The order includes a 180,000 lb melting furnace, a 180,000 lb tilting holding furnace, and related equipment.
“Gillespie & Powers Inc. is honored to have been selected for this project,” the supplier said in a new release. “[We are] excited to be partnering with Matalco in the continued development of their business.”
Matalco previously worked with Gillespie & Powers for their recently completed greenfield project in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, which started operation in November 2020. A furnace from that project is pictured above.
The new furnaces for the Franklin facility are expected to begin operation in mid-2022.
