Ellwood Group Inc., is constructing a new aluminum casting facility at its Ellwood Engineered Castings site in Hubbard, Ohio. The $60 million project will include the construction of a new 70,000 sq ft facility with advanced aluminum melting and casting capabilities. The plant will produce an estimated 150 million lbs of large extrusion billet and slab and employ 30 permanent, full-time employees.
“This significant investment clearly demonstrates Ellwood’s unwavering commitment to serve our customers and expand and develop new markets,” Ben Huffman, COO of Ellwood Group, told AreaDevelopment. “We decided on Hubbard as the site of our new facility because of its location relative to our potential market, its exceptional workforce and the comprehensive incentive package and assistance provided at both the state and local levels.”
The company has been approved for a 60%, 10-year enterprise zone agreement from the Trumbull County Commissioners in support of the new facility. “The new Federal Tax Laws are a big shot in the arm, helping to justify this important project, bringing high-paying manufacturing jobs back to Ohio and the United States,” said Huffman.
Founded in 1910, the Ellwood Group is a family owned supplier of high-quality, engineered steel components to worldwide customers in industries such as oil and gas, power generation, mining, infrastructure and construction, aerospace, defense, railroad, automotive, industrial machinery, metal processing, gearing/power transmission, and shipbuilding. The construction of the new aluminum casting facility is the first time in the company’s history that it will manufacture a material beyond steel.
The aluminum casthouse is expected to be commissioned by the first quarter of 2020.
