Aluminum Dynamics, the newly formed aluminum operations of Steel Dynamics, Inc., signed a contract with Gillespie & Powers Inc. along with their strategic partners Hustler Conveyor Company, American Pulverizer Company, and ETA Engineering for the supply of furnace equipment, pre-treatment equipment, and air pollution control equipment for their recently announced, state-of-the-art facilities in Columbus, Mississippi, Gila Bend, Arizona, and San Luis Potosi, Mexico.
This scope of supply includes shredders, conveyors, hot and cold air pollution control equipment, melting furnaces, holding furnaces, and metal treatment equipment up to the casting table of various sizes and configurations. The new recycling, melting, and casting lines will be designed to produce automotive, can, and common alloy aluminum sheet of the highest quality, according to Aluminum Dynamics’ demanding specifications.
Gillespie & Powers, a fifth generation family-owned company, will supply specialized melting and furnaces for the project. Hustler Conveyor Company will design and manufacture complete equipment for the company’s various scrap processing needs. American Pulverizer Company will provide heavy duty scrap shredding equipment, and ETA Engineering will supply the ventilation and air pollution control solutions for the projects.
Steel Dynamics is one of the largest domestic steel producers and metals recyclers in the North America, based on estimated annual steelmaking and metals recycling capabilities. The company has facilities located throughout the U.S. and Mexico. In 2022, the company announced plans to invest $2.2 billion in three new aluminum facilities, including a low-carbon flat rolled mill along with two supporting recycled aluminum slab centers.
The rolling mill in Mississippi is currently expected to begin operations in the first quarter 2025, while the Mexico slab casting facility expected to begin operations in 2024 and the Arizona slab casting facility by the end of 2025.
