The International Committee for Study of Bauxite, Alumina and Aluminium (ICSOBA) announced that its 40th International Conference and Exhibition will be held in Athens, Greece, on October 10–14, 2022. As a hybrid event, delegates will be able to access presentations online. The host sponsor will be Mytilineos, which owns and operates Aluminium of Greece, the largest vertically integrated alumina and aluminum producer in the European Union.

The ICSOBA Conference and Exhibition is expected to draw delegates — including employees, professors, students, consultants, and suppliers — from aluminum companies, universities, and R&D organizations.

The event will provide a full scope of upstream industry knowledge, from mine to metal — which will be organized into conference sessions. A primary focus of the conference will be on sustainable development and reducing the carbon footprint of the primary aluminum industry.

On-site delegates will also have the opportunity to participate in a plant tour of the Aluminium of Greece smelter in Agios Nikolaos, Greece. The complex includes an alumina refinery, a bauxite residue treatment pilot plant, and aluminum and carbon operations.

In its vision and commitment to cooperate with other conferences and better serve the aluminum industry, ICSOBA is also pleased to partner with the 4th International Bauxite Residue Valorisation and Best Practices Conference (BR2022) on September 29–October 1st (which will be virtual) and the Final RemovAL Cross-Fertilisation Conference, which will be held in conjunction with the ICSOBA event in Athens.

Call for Abstracts

The ICSOBA event will cover bauxite, alumina, and aluminum production and will be organized in sessions. The organizing committee is inviting the submission of abstracts, papers, and presentations on the following subjects:

  • Global bauxite deposits and mining
  • Alumina refining
  • Bauxite residue valorisation
  • Carbon electrodes in aluminum electrolysis
  • Primary aluminium production
  • New processing technologies
  • Greenfield and brownfield activities
  • Success stories in projects implementation
  • Health, environment, and safety
  • Market scenarios and economic outlook

This event is a great opportunity for aluminum companies and researchers to present their achievements in the aluminum community and to meet other experts in the field.

The deadline for submitting abstracts is June 1, 2022.
