Aluminum Association Releases Molten Aluminum Transportation Guidelines

According to the Aluminum Association, with smelters curtailing production in the U.S., over-the-road transportation of molten aluminum has increased. Many aluminum companies have realized the benefits of receiving molten aluminum that has been delivered efficiently and safely straight to their door.

Every day molten aluminum is being delivered in America. With the molten aluminum typically being 1,300-1,450°F,  this activity allows for potentially dangerous situations to occur. The Aluminum Association believes that these hazards can be minimized or eliminated entirely through careful attention to safe transportation practices and the sharing of best practices.

Fortunately, companies perform this transportation smoothly without a hitch on a daily basis by complying with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) hazardous material regulations. These regulations are pertinent to a wide array of industries. The Aluminum Association just made it more convenient to attain standards specifically pertinent to the transportation of molten aluminum by releasing the Molten Aluminum Transportation Guidelines.

The document provides a supplement to the regulations set forth by the DOT. Guidance based on best practices and lessons learned in the transportation of molten aluminum are provided within its pages. Now, companies involved in the transport of molten liquid aluminum have access to valuable safety and operational information at their fingertips. A digital version of Molten Aluminum Transportation Guidelines is available for download at the Aluminum Association’s bookstore.
