Fundamentals of Casthouse Safety – Online Training Module Now Available

As a component of its molten metal safety leadership, the Aluminum Association released a 40-minute online training module titled “Fundamentals of Casthouse Safety” for educational use. This training was developed from a presentation on the topic originally given at the 2017 ALUMINUM USA trade show.

This module is designed to provide an introduction to the principles of aluminum casting safety for individuals not involved directly in the casting process and/or to provide an accessible refresher in the interim between in-person casthouse safety workshop training sessions. Its availability is accompanied by a companion worksheet that can be used to validate comprehension of the material presented.

In-Person Training

The association will be conducting the in-person Casthouse Safety Workshop 2018 in Indianapolis, IN on September 11-12. This workshop series is a global benchmark in safety training for the molten aluminum environment and topics covered in detail include:

  • Molten Metal Safety
  • Scrap Handling and Charging
  • Protective Clothing and Equipment (PPE)
  • Casting Operations
  • Combustible Dust
  • Lock out /Tag out
  • Pit Guarding
  • Incident Investigation

The workshop also provides an opportunity for industry personnel to work together in interactive sessions designed to foster knowledge transfer across all company and organizational levels toward further improving facility safety performance
