While at the ALUMINUM USA trade show in Detroit, Michigan, in November 2015, Light Metal Age had the opportunity to interview a number of notable members of the aluminum industry.
This fourth interview in the series conducted by Ann Marie Fellom, publisher, presents Jon Gillespie, president of Gillespie & Powers (G&P), a well-known industrial engineering company specializing in supplying custom furnaces, including melters, holders, and decoaters to the aluminum industry. Located in St. Louis, MO, the company has been incorporated since 1938.
In this interview, Jon Gillespie describes his company and the insight G&P brings to every furnace sale. About half of the company’s sales are new furnaces versus repairs and modifications to existing ones. “Year in and year out, most of our sales would be sidewell (melting) furnaces,” says Jon Gillespie, who is the fourth generation in his family to work at G&P. He has spent most of his life working at the company, beginning summers as a teenager. Ten years ago, Jon bought the company from his father.
The next edition of ALUMINUM USA will be held in Nashville, Tennessee, on October 25–26, 2017.
