AMAG Orders New Aluminum Coil Surface Treatment Line

© by ANDRITZ

AMAG Rolling GmbH ordered the supply of a new strip surface treatment line for its facility in Ranshofen, Austria. The company has been investing heavily in its operations over the past few years in order to increase production, ensure the quality of its products, and improve the sustainability of its facility. Recent projects have included the opening of a Center for Material Innovation, modernizations of existing heat treatment and hot and cold rolling lines, and the installation of Austria’s largest rooftop photovoltaic system.

The new strip surface treatment line #2 will have a planned annual production of around 30,000 tons and will include an integrated wastewater treatment plant. The complete surface treatment line will be supplied by ANDRITZ, headquartered in Graz, Austria — including design, engineering, delivery, installation, start-up, and optimization of production.

The surface treatment line will feature advanced equipment technology with a highly efficient spraying system, which is designed for both hot-rolled and cold-rolled strip in order to cover the broad product portfolio produced by AMAG Rolling. In order to facilitate this, the line allows for fast product changes and, hence, very flexible production planning. Another key aspect of the new line is that it has been designed to support the specifications required for the production of products with a bright surface finish.

During surface treatment, an autonomous coil transport will carry coils to the line and then collect the processed coils. This system will be supported by Metris Intelligent Coil, an innovative, digital solution developed by ANDRITZ Automation, which will log all coil-specific production data and provide support in optimizing quality and productivity, as well as in achieving and verifying sustainability goals (such as reducing the CO2 footprint and lower consumption of resources).

The new surface treatment line will go into operation in mid-2023.
