Jiangsu Pacific Precision Forging Company successfully commissioned a fully automatic eccentric closed-die forging press at its facility in Taizhou, China. The new advanced press enables the company to produce lightweight aluminum components at scale for the automotive industry — thus, broadening its capabilities from steel into aluminum.

Global demand for aluminum parts continues to grow significantly, driven by carbon-reduction targets and the rapid expansion of electromobility. Forged aluminum enables the production of lightweight, high-strength, and dimensionally precise components used across automotive applications — improving vehicle efficiency, crash performance, and overall safety. This is because forged aluminum parts, such as body structures, suspension components, and engine parts, reduce vehicle weight and absorb energy during collisions.

Supplied by SMS group, the MP 3150 closed-die forging press has a press force of 31.5 MN.  Fully sensor-monitored, the press features a frequency-controlled main drive and a hydraulically-actuated clutch and brake system for precise, reliable operation.

The scope of supply also included an integrated, fully automated servo-electric walking-beam system, spray systems, and a bolster-changing cart for rapid automated bolster and process changes. Together, these systems offer precision, maximum reliability, and an efficient, sustainable production chain.

Commissioning of the new closed-die forging press is a strategic milestone for Pacific Precision Forging. With its advanced engineering and automation capabilities, the new forging press creates an efficient, more sustainable production chain and allows for the large-scale production of forged aluminum suspension components to meet rising demand in the lightweight automotive market.
