Spectra Orders New 28-MN Aluminum Extrusion Press

Spectra-Danieli Breda

Spectra Aluminum ordered a 28-MN, front-loading direct extrusion press and a high-efficiency gas billet oven for its greenfield operation in Bradford, Ontario, Canada. The facility features hundreds of thousands of square feet of manufacturing space dedicated to aluminum extrusion, fabrication, anodizing, and other capabilities. Using state-of-the-art technologies, the site is designed for versatility, material flow, and quick response.

The new 28-MN press from Danieli Breda will produce industrial profiles from 8 and 9 inch aluminum billets. The extrusion press will be equipped with the Danieli’s patented Energy Saving solution (ESED 4.0), which allows average energy savings of 25-30% compared to traditional systems available on the market. The press automation system, also developed by Danieli, will include remote-controlled HMI via tablets.

The ECOFLAME gas billet oven is designed to minimize the heat loss from the exhaust fumes, reducing the gas consumption per extruded ton up to 30-35% depending on the product mix. Thanks to the design of the burners and gas recirculation, the billet oven will achieve an accurate temperature tapering effect with a production rate of 5,000 kg/h at 480°C will. The multivariable transducer controls will provide correct gas and air mixtures, reducing the maintenance and the manual adjustments.

Following heating a fully electric billet loader will carry the billet from the oven to the press, drastically reducing the billet heat/energy loss and improving billet temperature accuracy.

Founded in 1978, Spectra Aluminum has a long history of delivering high quality aluminum extrusions and products to a wide range of industry sectors, including transportation, automotive, high-end windows and doors, glazing, lighting systems, furniture, and more. The company focuses on being able to supply complete aluminum components from a single source, with capabilities ranging from CAD design and project planning to 3D prototyping, to extrusion manufacturing, mechanical processing, anodizing, paint and powder coating, fabrication, quality testing and analysis, and automated custom packaging. The company serves the local, regional and international markets.

Commissioning of the new extrusion press and billet oven is planned for 2020.
