The ET Foundation and the Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) issued a Call for Entries for the 2023 Student Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition. Open to currently enrolled students in high school, college, university, or trade/design school, the design competition is intended to enlighten students — and their instructors — about the many design advantages and infinite application possibilities of aluminum extrusions.
Scholarship awards totaling $15,500 will be awarded for the winning student designs. The awards include $5,000 for First Place, $4,000 for Second Place, $3,000 for Third Place, and $3,500 for the Sustainability Design Challenge for student entries that best address societal and/or environmental challenges or concerns.
The competition scholarships are sponsored by Almag Aluminum, Brampton, ON, Canada; MI Metals, Inc., Oldsmar, FL; and Pennex Aluminum Company LLC, Wellsville, PA.
Students around the world — but especially in North America — are invited to submit designs that incorporate one or more extruded aluminum profiles in their product. Winning entries will be those that demonstrate the benefits of extruded aluminum — whether by inventing a new product or improving an existing one — by achieving the competition’s criteria and objectives of creativity, practicality, product/process improvement, and/or advantage and market impact/potential.
Entry in the competition is free and designs are due no later than March 27, 2023. More information about the competition including the Call for Entries and official entry form can be found on the competition website.
