Continuous Homogenizing Plant Commissioned in Turkey

Eti Aluminyum A.Ş. — Hertwich Engineering

Eti Aluminyum A.Ş. successfully commissioned a continuous homogenizing line from Hertwich Engineering at its Seydişehir plant in Turkey. The homogenizing line is part of a major investment to extend the company’s casthouse (which started operation in 2008) by building a fully integrated billet production facility for the extrusion industry. The expansion aims to meet demand for billet from the extrusion industry in Turkey, which has been growing in recent years. Currently, around 130 extrusion plants are operating a total of 230 extrusion lines in the country.

The state-of-the-art continuous homogenizing, sawing, and packing line commissioned in March 2016 as part of the new casthouse has a capacity for 118,000 tonnes of extrusion billet per year. The new line processes logs from two casting pits with diameters of 152, 178, and 203 mm. It is designed to enable rapid diameter change and is noted for precise temperature control in the holding section of the furnace. Overall, the scope of the delivery includes a saw, a homogenizing furnace with air cooling station, and a semi-automatic strapping machine for bundling the homogenized billet.

Eti Aluminyum, a subsidiary of Cengiz Holding, is a primary aluminum manufacturer with mining and refinery operations for bauxite and alumina, aluminum smelting operations, and downstream activities in foundry and rolling. As the sole integrated aluminum smelter in Turkey, the company produces primary aluminium bulk products (including alloyed metal, ECG and pure ingot, T-ingot, billet, and slab) for the domestic and worldwide market.
