Speira, an aluminum roller and recycler, signed a long-term agreement with the biggest prismatic battery producer from South Korea. The world-leading battery manufacturer’s advanced energy solutions also include lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. The manufacturer’s collaboration with Speira represents a clear commitment to sustainability.
“We are proud to have signed this agreement, which strengthens our position in the battery and e-mobility market building on a strong long-term relationship with our partner,” said Alexander Dörsel, head of Speira Specialties and New Business. “Our partner’s high-quality standards and requirements on supply chain stability are both an honor and a positive challenge for us. A strong team performance of all our four plants involved will form the basis of meeting these.”
The agreement covers the supply of substantial volumes of aluminum strip, spread over the contract period, which will be processed into battery containers and then used in battery cells for electric vehicles. The deal includes further improvements to the sustainability of the product by further increasing the recycled content of the material — thus, reducing the carbon footprint of the processed alloy.
The signing took place after a visit to Speira’s rolling facilities in Germany, including its wholly owned Grevenbroich plant, and the AluNorf joint venture in Neuss. At the rolling facilities, the South Korean delegation witnessed the production set-up and the transparency with which Speira breaks down the recycled content and carbon footprint of its products.
