An extensive light metals program is planned for the TMS 2024 Annual Meeting & Exhibition (TMS2024), which will be held March 3-7 in Orlando, FL. This event is the flagship event of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS) and features programming from all five TMS technical divisions, including the Light Metals Division.

The Annual Meeting & Exhibition attracts more than 4,000 minerals, metals, and materials scientists and engineers from around the world and features networking events and social activities, professional development opportunities, and an active exhibit hall. All-conference activities planned at TMS2024 will take place under one roof at the Hyatt Regency Orlando, a AAA four-diamond resort.

Conference Programming

Light metals programming at the 2024 event will be an excellent opportunity to interact with experts from the light metals industry and academia from all over the world and to learn about the latest updates on key issues in the industry. It will include symposia on the following subjects:

  • Aluminum Alloys: Development and Manufacturing
  • Aluminum Reduction Technology
  • Electrode Technology for Aluminum Production
  • Alumina & Bauxite
  • Scandium Extraction and Use in Aluminum Alloys
  • Magnesium Technology 2024
  • Advances in Titanium Technology
  • Melt Processing, Casting, and Recycling (formerly Cast Shop Technology)

In addition, the Light Metals Division will host a symposium in honor of TMS member Anil K. Sachdev, called An Atoms to Autos Approach for Materials Innovations for Lightweighting. This special symposium will focus on how microstructure can be engineered to address challenges related to lightweight product design and manufacturing. In total, the TMS 2024 technical program is made up of more than 90 symposia in ten technical tracks, providing an opportunity to explore related topics and technologies.

Gregg Whigham from Aluminum Dynamics LLC will be the featured speaker at the TMS Light Metals Division Luncheon, which takes place Wednesday, March 6. To enjoy an afternoon with light metals colleagues, celebrate award recipients, and hear a talk by the invited speaker, purchase a ticket to this special event.

Conference registrants will receive electronic access to the newest editions of two long-standing and wellrespected proceedings volumes: Light Metals 2024 and Magnesium Technology 2024. These proceedings will collect papers from the symposia, providing comprehensive, technical data and knowledge on the light metals industry.
