Aquaman Dives into Sustainability with Water in Aluminum Cans

Jason Momoa, an actor known widely for his roles as Aquaman and Khal Drogo on Game of Thrones, released a YouTube video in which he shaved his famous beard to promote the use of aluminum versus plastic while introducing his new line of water in aluminum cans. In the trending video, Momoa says, “I just want to do this to bring awareness because I think plastics are killing our planet, and I have a solution, there’s only one thing that can really help our planet and save our planet, as long as we recycle…and that’s aluminum.”

Momoa describes the fact that aluminum is infinitely recyclable. He notes, “About 75% of all aluminum that has ever been used is still in circulation today, and it’s 100% recyclable — so you drink the can and in about 60 days, it’ll be back 100%. I hate going to the airport and being on the airplane, and having a [plastic] water bottle … when it could be an aluminum one that’s fully recyclable.”

According to the Hollywood star, he’s been working on an aluminum can water project over the past few months to help spread the message of sustainability. The canned water is being developed in collaboration with Colorado-based Ball Corporation. “I wanted to make my own water so I could have an example of a product I could take out and give to the world and show to other companies in hopes that they would do the same. I’m on a quest, I’m on a journey,” he said.

In the desert sunset Momoa lines up his still, alkaline, sparkling, and spring water cans and then cracks one open. After taking a long sip, he says, “It’s just water but I feel good about it because I know I’m going to recycle it. Aquaman’s trying to do the best job that I can, that he can, for the world, for my kids, for your kids — clean up the oceans, clean up the land. There’s a change coming, and it’s aluminum.”
