Exlabesa inaugurated its new €25 million extrusion facility in João Rui Ferreira, Portugal. This new production center represents a significant milestone in the multinational’s consolidation strategy in southern Europe.

Located on a plot of more than 86,000 sq m and with 10,000 sq m under roof,  the plant includes two 2,800 tonne press lines, along with a vertical powder coating line capable of processing profiles up to 7,200 mm long. These state-of-the-art production capabilities ensure a low carbon footprint and enable an annual capacity of 16,000 tonnes of extruded profiles.

The facility specializes in the extrusion of aluminum profiles for the most demanding industrial sectors, such as construction, transport, infrastructure, and renewable energies. Its strategic location in the centre of Portugal allows it to offer a fast and efficient service to customers in Portugal, Spain, and France through Exlabesa’s extensive logistics network.

In order to ensure the sustainability of the final products, the extrusions produced are made from Exlabesa’s RE-local recycled aluminum. Produced in the company’s own recycling and smelting centers, this recycled aluminum billet has a carbon footprint of only 2.95 kg CO₂e/kg Al, as certified by Bureau Veritas.

The Portugal extrusion facility is certified according to ISO 9001, CE marking, and the international Qualicoat certification, which guarantees the highest quality of lacquering. Additionally, it has also obtained the Alu+C- environmental label, allowing it to sell guaranteed sustainable profiles on the French market.

Exlabesa plans to continue its expansion projects. As part of its €45 million global investment and expansion plan over the next few years, the company aims to expand its Portugal facility, increasing the factory size to 31,000 sq m to incorporate three additional presses — two 3,500 tonnes and one 4,500 tonnes. This will allow the site to have an annual production of more than 45,000 tonnes of extruded aluminum, making the center one of the most important in Portugal and Europe.
