A-Tech Receives Approval to Open Extrusion Plant in Australia

A-Tech Extrusion Systems received approval from the Orange City Council to open a $5 million aluminum extrusion and powder coating plant at a former Electrolux site in Orange City, Australia.

“Currently around two-thirds of the local aluminum market (worth $832 million a year) is met by imports from China and Vietnam,” said Charlie Ibrahim, CEO of A-Tech Australia. “By boosting the local aluminum manufacturing industry, home-grown businesses can substitute a significant proportion of these imports with locally-made products.”

A-Tech Extrusion Systems is a subsidiary of A-Tech Australia, a Sydney, Australia-based company that manufactures aluminum components, such as windows and doors, for the residential and commercial building industry. The company plans to use existing buildings at the Orange City location and outfit them with advanced European production technology in order to gain a competitive advantage. The plant is expected to to operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week over three shifts, with around 60 staff.

When A-Tech Extrusion completes and starts up the new facility, it will be able to produce 9,000 tonnes of finished product per year. The first stage of the new facility will manufacture aluminum products for the building industry, such as components for windows, doors, curtainwalls, skylights, canopies, louvers, etc.

As the site continues to operate, it will begin producing components for the transportation (automotive structural and chassis components, crash management systems, etc.), electrical and energy (solar energy mounting systems, LED lighting, etc.), medical component, and consumer durables (recreation products, home and garden tools, home appliances, etc.) industries.

“Orange City Council has been pleased to be working with A-Tech for a number of years as they move towards setting up a new operation in Orange,” said Reg Kidd, the Orange City mayor, when the company first applied for approval in late 2019. “This is a growing company that’s poised to secure a key place supplying the Australian building industry and it’s fantastic news that they see Orange as part of their future plans.”
