ICSOBA 2019 to Present Global Developments in Bauxite, Alumina, and Aluminum

International Committee for Study of Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium (ICSOBA) 

The International Committee for Study of Bauxite, Alumina & Aluminium (ICSOBA) will be hosting ICSOBA 2019 — 37th international conference and exhibition — on September 16-20, 2019 in Krasnoyrask, Russia. Sponsored by UC Rusal, the event will be held in conjunction with the 25th “Aluminium of Siberia” Conference within XI International Congress & Exhibition “Non-Ferrous Metals and Minerals” (NFM).

The aim of ICSOBA 2019 is to review the status of worldwide bauxite, alumina, and aluminum industry with an emphasis on Russia. It will also highlight proposed various greenfield and brownfield activities in the aluminum industry and discuss new advances in sustainability and safety systems and technologies. The event will provide an excellent opportunity for attendees to interact with international experts, scientists, engineers, technology suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and representatives from the aluminum industry, as well as facilitate meetings between university students and industry representatives.

Conference Program

The ICSOBA conference program will include presentations on bauxite mining, alumina refining, aluminum reduction technology, bauxite residue (red mud), carbon materials, and casting, deformation, and recycling of aluminum, as well as additive technology. The program will also include round-table sessions to provide more in-depth discussions of these topics. A workshop in alumina production will be conducted by industry experts.

Several keynote speakers for the Plenary Session have been confirmed, including:

  • Victor Mann, technical director at Rusal
  • Bibhu Mishra, president and head of the Manufacturing Center of Excellence for Hindalco Industries Limited, Aditya Birla Group
  • Abhijit Pati, CEO Vedanta Aluminium Ltd
  • Joe Woo, associate director of Research and Development for Sunstone, China
  • Caroline Alglave, research analyst in CRU’s aluminum team

There will also be additional sessions on mineral resources and metallurgy of other non-ferrous, rare, and precious metals organized by NFM at the same time as the ICSOBA sessions.

Technical Field Trips

The 2019 program will include technical field trips, with visits to Rusal plants on Friday, September 20th. Sites to be visited include:

  • Achinsk alumina refinery
  • Krasnoyarsk aluminium smelter (including eco Søderberg potroom and foundry production)
  • Khakas aluminium smelter (RA-550, casting production)

Exhibition

The conference will include a exhibition area, where companies will be able to present the latest technologies, equipment, and other systems for the aluminum industry. Exhibitors will also have the opportunity to give a presentation at the exhibition.
