Hammerer Aluminium Industries (HAI) acquired a stake in Aluminij Industries, marking another strategic milestone in its growth and sustainability strategy. The partnership brings together two strong industrial companies that want to jointly shape the future of sustainable aluminum production in Europe, with a clear focus on innovation, the circular economy, and long-term industrial development.

“Especially in geopolitically challenging times, secure access to aluminum on the European continent is a decisive competitive factor,” said Rob van Gils, CEO of the HAI Group. “With this partnership, we are strengthening our industrial base in Europe and securing additional long-term access to primary and recycled metal within Europe. This increases our resilience, reduces dependencies, and supports our strategic focus on security of supply.”

HAI is contributing to this partnership with Aluminij as a knowledge partner. HAI operates two modern and flexible foundries in Europe, where the company produces extrusion billets, rolling slabs, sows and desox aluminum with a high scrap content.  With this expertise, HAI will will support Aluminij Industries in significantly increasing the use of recycled material in the future.

“Our expertise in recycling and processing aluminum with a high scrap content ideally complements Aluminij’s modern infrastructure,” noted van Gils. “We look forward to our future together.”

About Aluminij Industries

Founded in 1975, Aluminij is one of the most important importers and exporters in Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, challenging energy prices caused the smelter to stop operating in July 2019. M.T. Abraham Group, owner of the aluminum company, relaunched the facility in 2020 under a new name, Aluminij Industries.

Aluminij Industries operates state-of-the-art facilities with an annual production capacity of over 200,000 tons of billet and ingots. Combined with its strategic location and well-developed road, rail, and seaport network, Aluminij is positioned as a leading aluminum manufacturer on the European mainland.
