Summary: Over 35 million people in India, mainly in rural villages, have no access to electricity. The AAS Centre for Human Hope aims to improve the quality of life of these villagers by replacing kerosene lamps with simple solar powered electric lanterns that provide light with no running cost to villagers. The solar panels are mounted on extruded aluminum frames, and the LED lanterns use aluminum extrusions as heat exchangers. The center hopes to provide these solar systems to 200 villages by the end of 2012.
