Summary:UC Rusal completed phase one (from 2004-2009) of a modernization program at its Krasnoyarsk aluminum smelter in Siberia, Russia, aimed at expanding the plant's primary aluminum output and reducing the environmental impact of the facility. This article gives and overview of Krasnoyarsk and presents the environmental improvements at the plant, which shifted to Clean Søderberg technology. The company believes this technology is competitive with pre-pake anode technology. Rusal also has plans for further environmental improvements at Krasnoyarsk and in Siberia.
